We are Proud of our Legacy…
Our service began as a result of the vision of Captain Llewellyn T. Sewer, grandson of the late Captain Victor Sewer. Victor Sewer was born into a strong seafaring family. He, Victor, helped to establish the first passenger ferry between St. John and St. Thomas. Captain Victor Sewer was also the man who began the first passenger ferry between St. John and Tortola on his vessel, the M/V Jolly Roger. Captain Victor’s grandfather was also known to have traversed the seas of the Caribbean. As a consequence, Llewellyn stands on the back of seafaring giants; hence, this corporation was started in honor of Llewellyn's grandfather and great-grandfathers. The M/V Capt. Vic is the first vessel owned by the corporation and it was named in honor of the late Captain Victor Sewer. This is a picture of his, the late Captain Vic's, boat the M/V Jolly Roger.

We are Proud of our Name…
Our company was incorporated initially under the name Republic Barge Service, Inc. In our 8th year of service, our name was changed in honor of Llewellyn “Big Lew” Sewer, father of Captain Llewellyn T. Sewer. Big Lew was a multi talented man who, among other things, was a radio disk jockey. It is to this man’s imagination we owe the various “island names”, St. Thomas was dubbed “Rock City”, St. Croix “Twin City”, Tortola “Chocolate City” and of course St. John “Love City”. It is in his honor that we are now and forever known as Love City Car Ferries, Inc.

We are Proud of our Corporate Culture…
Our name reflects our corporate mantra, “A Heart for the People.” This company supports the community and is concerned with the plight of individual households. For this reason, we have kept our prices reasonable, despite the rising cost of fuel. We remain committed to offering the lowest prices and the best service. In addition, we have a history of being socially responsible; for example, after Hurricane Katrina we donated an entire day’s cash sales to the American Red Cross. Many local non-profit organizations and various other charities have benefited from our socially conscious convictions. We know you have a choice in your travels and we hope you will choose to ride with a company that loves people. We are here for you now and we intend to be there for you in the future. You can count on Love City Car Ferries, Inc., to get you from island to island in a safe and timely manner day after day, year after year. Our name may have changed but our commitment remains the same.
